Recap of ERE SocialRecruiting Summit
[Talent Function]
November 24th, 2009 | by Chris Hoyt
If the location wasn’t enough to get you interested in attending the Social Recruiting event in New York last week, then the familiar names within the recruiting/staffing industry should have been. With heavy hitters like Sumser, Crispin, and Burnett pitching the latest on stats and trends around Social Recruiting we could have walked away happy to have attended. What Manaster, his ERE crew and the attendees (because the attendees were VITAL to the success) put together pushed upwards that bar that we’ll likely measure events from going forward…read more

#socialrecruiting – a glimpse of conferences to come
[PeopleShark]
November 20th, 2009 | by Carmen Hudson
Back from NYC, where we attended the ERE Social Recruiting Summit. I was there as a vendor (Tweetajob sponsored lunch), a speaker (I had 10 minutes to Keep It Real, and moderated an unconference session) and as an attendee. I am still buzzing from the energy that emanated from the participants. Sure, the topic was social media, so a certain amount of excitement was a given. The conference framework, however, was the catalyst for a different level of engagement…read more

NYC Unconference Sessions

With the New York City #socialrecruiting summit less than a month away, it is now time for you to make your voice heard and shape your own conference (or should I say unconference) experience.

While one of the tracks features a somewhat structured agenda led by our tremendous session leaders, the 2nd track of the summit, the unconference track, has no agenda. So it is up to you as an attendee to decide what should be discussed.

So to that end, we have set up an EtherPad (which happens to be a tremendous free tool to use for collaborative projects like this!) You can make updates to the document embedded in this blog post or on the EtherPad site. Wherever you make the edits, you will be able to see them in real time any place the pad is displayed.

Here’s how it works:

  1. If you would like to suggest a topic, post it below along with your name, company, and contact details.
  2. If you would like to vote on a previously suggested topic, just copy and paste it below the original and add your name and details.
  3. If you suggest a topic; make sure you are prepared to lead the discussion if it is selected. This does not mean that you must be an expert on that topic, you just have to be willing to lead a meaningful conversation with your peers!

The topics which receive the most votes will be brought to NYC on a whiteboard where the voting will continue to decide which sessions will be held, so add as many topics as you think you would be interested in talking about. And if you would like to post this EtherPad to your own blog, just copy and paste this piece of code:

#SocialRecruiting and Universal Truths

Posted by Laurie Ruettimann (@lruettimann)

I’m so excited to chair the upcoming #socialrecruiting summit. If you are like me, you are telling your friends and colleagues about the upcoming event in NYC. If you are like me, you have to stop and explain exactly what social recruiting means in the talent management world.

Michael Specht wrote a great post, several months ago, with a simple and concise definition of social recruiting.

  • Using social media tools as part of recruiting.
  • Building a community of potential candidates.
  • Engaging with candidates as people not numbers.

Can anyone do better than that? Do we have a universal definition for the act of social recruiting?

Announcing the Next #socialrecruiting summit

About five months ago, in the midst of the worst economy we have seen in over 80 years and with very little fanfare, we announced that we would be hosting a new event for our industry, the first ever #socialrecruiting summit.

Our industry has been embracing new social media tools for years, but the debate has always raged strong whether it is anything more than hype. However, after the announcement, and with no real marketing other than spreading the word through social media channels, the event sold out in just six weeks and generated a waiting list of over 80 people trying to get into the event. All of this happening during a time when the conference and trade show industry was seeing a decline in attendance upwards of 40%. This was an obvious testament to the need for information sharing and discussion on social recruiting topics.

So, on June 15 in Silicon Valley, 225 recruiters and industry professionals were joined by thousands of others who participated in a live stream and online chat, to move beyond the hype and share stories about what is already producing results and how we can successfully incorporate these tools in our recruiting strategy.

The feedback from those in attendance showed that while this first event was a step in the right direction, there are still many unanswered questions and a need for more discussion and information sharing.

So to that end, we are excited to announce that we have secured the dates and location for the next #socialrecruiting summit, to take place in New York City on November 16.

First-Hand Experiences from Social Recruiting Summit

I think it is safe to say that an incredible shared experience was had by the 225 people at the Google HQ, the thousands more who participated in the live stream and chat, and those who contributed to over 1200 tweets on June 15 alone!

But there is nothing like first hand accounts from those in the audience to get a feel for what took place at the first ever Social Recruiting Summit.

Here are some of what has been written by the participants. If you have something to add or are in the process of writing your own post about your experience, please leave a link to it in the comments section to this post. Hopefully we can do a follow up in a few weeks with additional links to those accounts.
