A Conference on Social Recruiting Tools

Social media is rapidly becoming more than just another tool in a recruiter’s toolbox — it’s an important part of the future of the talent acquisition profession. On June 15, 225 recruiting industry professionals got together at Google’s World HQ in Mountain View, CA, and thousands more participated in a live stream and online chat to learn and discuss what has worked, what has been tried and what can be done to capitalize on these incredibly powerful tools for our industry.

This first of its kind, sold-out event brought together recruiting’s best and brightest for a hybrid between a conference and an unconference. With only part of the agenda set (and even those sessions included only a 15-20 minute presentation).

The goal of the Social Recruiting Summit is to have an industry conversation about these tools, talk about tactics and strategies that are already in the field and working, not pie-in-the-sky ideas.

If you missed the June event, check out some of the session video and audio recordings here. And read about what was written by some of the attendees in Mountain View.

This won’t be the last Social Recruiting Summit, so if you are interested in getting more information about future summits, make sure to follow us on Twitter (@socrecruiting) or email socialrecruiting@ere.net.

First-Hand Experiences from Social Recruiting Summit

I think it is safe to say that an incredible shared experience was had by the 225 people at the Google HQ, the thousands more who participated in the live stream and chat, and those who contributed to over 1200 tweets on June 15 alone!

But there is nothing like first hand accounts from those in the audience to get a feel for what took place at the first ever Social Recruiting Summit.

Here are some of what has been written by the participants. If you have something to add or are in the process of writing your own post about your experience, please leave a link to it in the comments section to this post. Hopefully we can do a follow up in a few weeks with additional links to those accounts.

You & Social Recruiting – Tell Us What You Do

In just a few weeks we’ll be converging on the Googleplex to engage in one of the most important dialogues around recruiting today and in the future.  The influence social media and networking is having on the way we work, learn, connect and recruit is profound.  But, this is only the beginning!  Social Recruiting is a game changer.  Some things will not change.  Important elements like employment brand messaging, strong candidate relations, and effective processes will continue to be critical to the foundation of any great talent strategy.  What will change is that Social Recruiting has the potential to either enhance these elements or dilute them while the world watches and engages in a conversation around your company – the stakes are definitely higher!

Where are we at today in our use of social media and networking for recruitment?  How do you personally engage through social media and how do you engage for your company to attract Talent? The 10 questions below are designed to provide us some insight around where we are today and provide some benchmarks around results and practices.  You’ll also have an opportunity to share what your ultimate game plan looks like.   I’ll be sharing some of the highlights during the Social Recruiting Summit and the full results will be available here as well.  Let the dialogue begin!

Community managers and the evolution of the recruiting function

i-personThe idea of a community manager isn’t unique to the recruiting function. The term is borrowed from the consumer world and emerged with the influence social media is exerting on brand engagement and reputation. While the role is still relatively new, companies have begun to realize the potential to attract, engage, nurture, retain, and expand their customer/client base beyond traditional marketing and PR. It’s about creating brand value through experiential engagement and listening rather than talking to nurture conversations and relationships. In a connected, multi-channel world, staying relevant requires new thinking and developing the skill to engage people in conversations is one way to accomplish differentiation.

Announcing Social Recruiting Summit 2009

Today we are excited to announce the launch of Social Recruiting Summit 2009. This conference was developed specifically with help from a number of the Talent Acquisition professionals who are most active in using Social Media so we could develop an event that goes beyond the hype and gives the recruiting community real info for us to use.

Watch here as Susan Burns, who will serve as chairwoman, announces the Summit at this year’s ERE Expo 2009 Spring conference in San Diego.

Check out the agenda and session leaders, and stay tuned for more updates on this in the coming days. Only part of the agenda will be programed ahead of time; the rest will be left up to you, the attendees, to decide exactly what you hope to get out of the event.

The event will be held at Google’s headquarters (The Googleplex) in Mountain View, CA so we can take advantage of the energy at one of the most innovative locations on earth.

We hope to see you in June, and before that, please join the conversation already taking place on twitter. And please leave any questions you have in the comments below.
