Kris Dunn is serving as the host for the Spring 2010 Social Recruiting Summit. SRS Quick Hit - Jessica Lee (15 minutes)

  • Jessica Lee photo

An entire day devoted to social recruiting — we’re all gung-ho about it! But this stuff isn’t easy; there are real hurdles to successfully implementing these ideas.

Before you get a social recruiting strategy off the ground though, you may have to deal with challenges ranging from simply determining which tools and sites to use to ensuring cohesion of your employment brand with company brand to scaling to… and then of course, not all recruiters are even open to using social media. Let’s say you clear those hurdles though, is it all easy breezy from there? Not always. The reality is that you’ll still have to sort out issues including time management to message consistency, metrics and efficacy… and then of course, how to take it to the next level and keep up with latest and greatest social network. Surprises will abound as you make your social recruiting maiden voyage – but you don’t have to go at it alone.

Join Jessica Lee as she talks through how she successfully cleared many of these hurdles and helps you brainstorm around managing the hurdles of social recruiting pre- and post implementation.

After this short session, Jessica will be leading an unconference discussion on this topic and another that will be determined by the Summit participants.

Engaging vs. Broadcasting with Twitter (60 minutes)

  • Susan Strayer LaMotte photo

Jumping on the social media bandwagon for recruiting most likely means the use of Twitter. Early adopters of Twitter for recruiting are testing the waters with information and job postings rather than full-on engagement and conversation with job seekers. Is that the right way? Or should Twitter be used as a true social network, with the goal of connecting with users rather than just disseminating information. Join Susan Strayer, a talent acquisition leader from a Fortune 500 brand as she leads off with her take on the issue and opens up the floor for what’s bound to be a lively discussion. What do you think is the right way to use Twitter for recruiting, and are you ready to take a stand?

SRS Quick Hit - Richard Cho (15 minutes)

  • Richard Cho photo

Many companies struggle with measuring the effectiveness of their employment branding efforts through social media. This causes them to optimize towards the wrong metrics, diluting their social media message with ‘spammy’ recruiting tactics that often produce counter-productive results.

Richard will talk about the difference between “demand generation” versus “demand fulfillment” and how to create a social media strategy to get your employment branding story out in a meaningful, relevant and authentic way which will help your organization build a pipeline of highly qualified and excited candidates even before you post your next job.

After this short session, Richard will be leading an unconference discussion on this topic and another that will be determined by the Summit participants.

The New Age Recruiting Paradox (60 minutes)

  • Josh Ingalls photo
  • Andy Drish photo

Technology is advancing faster than any policy or regulation. For many recruiters this creates a paradox. Do you take advantage of the latest technology without approval from the company or follow policy and see results decline? This interactive session is about changing the rules instead of breaking them. The first half of this presentation will focus on:

  • What to do when your ideas are shot down by management
  • Avoiding career suicide when pushing your ideas
  • Shifting culture beyond a web 2.0 world

The second half will focus on you. We’ll facilitate a discussion that highlights ways you have changed or broken the rules and the consequences.

SRS Quick Hit - Lance Haun (15 minutes)

  • Lance Haun photo

Have you heard of AerHub? How about Lawyrs? Or MechanicsHub? These are all social networks that target certain industries (in this case, aviation, law and mechanical). If you’re at this summit, you know about most of the major tools available to recruiters in social media like Twitter or Facebook. When it comes to niche social networking and forum sites though, what are you missing out on? How do your tactics change in comparison to the big social networks?

After this short session, Lance will be leading an unconference discussion on this topic and another that will be determined by the Summit participants.

Marketing Yourself With Social Media (Without Being Annoying!) (60 minutes)

  • Amybeth Hale photo

Let’s face it – as recruiting and sourcing professionals, we cannot deny the fact that we’re also salespeople, marketers, PR folks and in some cases even web designers. It’s part of our job – we need to find, attract, and engage our target audience and make them feel that what we have to offer is superior than what our competitors bring to the table. Social media tools allows us to do all of this ourselves which can be both a good and bad thing!

Whether your audience is a job seeker, a potential client, or a fellow recruiting professional, there are right and wrong ways to engage him or her. In this discussion at the Social Recruiting Summit, we’ll be talking about:

  • Who your audience is and how to find them
  • Determining what your goal is in reaching them via social media
  • Researching vs. listening vs. engaging and when each is appropriate
  • Selecting the right technology to reach the right people.
  • Doing all this without damaging your company or personal brand in the process!
